The Alps are both fascinating and terrifying at the same time. They bring photographers closer to the light, which is why the were and continue to be a perfect subject. Ornella Fieres is also fascinated by them. In her Multiversum series she grapples with the issue of light, in respect of the alpine landscape. Fieres investigates the analogue and the digital, negatives and positives, the past and the future as well as all transitions between. One part of her study involves digitally rendering the Alps on analogue film: to this she mounted a cell phone camera in front of the lens of an analogue SLR-camera. In other experiments she placed negatives from the 1950s (all depicting alpine landscapes) in front of the camera lens. The light which passed through the negatives came from a computer screen, which projected the digital positive onto the analogue negative.
